Question: Should the death penalty be abolished?

This next article I researched I really wanted to focus on racism within the death penalty. The article gives full detail on how capital punishment has always been affected by racism. Many facts are provided giving me a stronger support in using racism in my essay. The odds of receiving the death penalty are nearly 4x higher if the defendant is black. Blacks are being sentenced to death far in excess of other defendants for similar crimes. The key decision makers in the death cases around the country are almost exclusively all white men. Examinations of the relationship between race and the death penalty with varying levels of thoroughness and sophistication have now been conducted in every major death penalty state. It suggests that along with these results 96% of these reviews there was a pattern of either race-of-victim or race-of-defendant discrimination or both. Race is also more likely to affect the death penalty then smoking affects the likelihood of dying from heart disease.
This source supports my previous sources that go along with the death penalty because they give facts that will be able to add to both sides of my argument. It is not as opinionated as other sources I used. It allows for me to use this source as supporting statements. It gives me a broader prospective for race being a huge debate in the death penalty. This source seems to flow pretty well with my other sources, but also giving new  details and background information.
Most of the sources I have researched support the idea of racism being a huge issue. I never thought of it as being as largely debated as it is. It really opened my mind to new issues and new ways of thinking about this issue. This article along with my other articles I looked into about racism in the death penalty all seem to support to same idea that racism is a key component. Blacks are not equal in the justice system and will get punished more harshly based on their skin. I knew racism still existed but I never really considered the race of those who were executed with the death penalty. I also never realized how many whites were on the justice system. This is one of the main reasons why blacks are discriminated again due to the race of those giving their sentencing. If there were equal number of blacks and white along with all other races it might make it less discriminating. This sources support my other articles but also gave me much more information I plan on using for my essay. It will allow me to support my original viewpoint of abolishing the death penalty due to racism but also it can give me the motivation to research if it the race was even would it make it more fair?
I think the questions I will want to research are going to make more facts about racism in the death penalty. How many whites are in charge of the justice system of sentencing our executions? Are they mostly white? Who voted them in? Is there a equal opportunity for whites and blacks to make these decisions?  These are all questions that come to mind after reading this article that I want to follow up on. I believe these will make my argument stronger and provide me with a stronger more interesting essay. I want to make sure I give enough information to provide the reader with and leave them with all their questions unanswered and persuaded by my essay.
