Illinois Concealed Carry Gun Bill Opposed By Governor Approved By House
Summary: Illinois became the last state in the country to enact a concealed carry law. There was a vote through the House and it came out to be 85-30 in favor of allowing concealed guns. The obliteration of all local gun laws, including Chicago’s ban on assault-style weapons, was the reason there was resistance from the Governor. Even though people are now allowed to carry weapons with them, there must be restrictions on that new given liberty. The state should initiate laws that make people go through gun safety, apply for a permit, and pass a background check before allowing them to carry a weapon. If no state law were to be passed creating restrictions, cities and counties can create their own ordinances or have no restrictions at all enabling chaos in the streets.
Synthesis: This article is slightly comparable to the last one in regards to allowing concealed carry and making restrictions on the weapons, except that the state of Illinois disregarded certain bans on assault weapons, whether or not people had to carry permits in the streets, or where they were allowed to carry such weapons. Allowing someone to carry a weapon is a special liberty, but certain restrictions have to be put into place to make sure that more crime doesn't arise from this because there were no limitations to how far people could take this new liberty.
Critical Thinking: I believe that the way Illinois handled their new law on concealed carry was badly executed. It was a good thing to initiate a concealed carry policy in Illinois because cities like Chicago have the worst crime rates in the country. This allows people to protect themselves and others around them. But the fact that no regulations or limitations were put in place could affect peoples thought process on how far they can take their freedom of concealed carry. Having no restrictions would allow people to carry weapons without permits, take them where they please, even have assault weapons. These are cases that could lead to more violence and chaos. Carrying weapons into crowded city areas could bring about bad situations in which violence could arise. Having gun laws in place are necessary in protecting the people even more.
Question: Would no gun restrictions on concealed carry matter? Yes they would. Restrictions put in place would protect people even further. Even though people may have the freedom to carry a weapon, certain limitations have to be put in place to make sure people don't abuse their freedom.
