Journal 4
My fourth article talk about what some of the players have done about the concussions in the NFL. They claim that the NFL knew about all these players getting hurt and the serious head trauma they are getting. These retired players contend that the league purposely witheld information about the damaging affects of concussions. The article mentions one specific case in Philadelphia where the player claimed the NFL kept secret all the information about head injuries. They believe now that the NFL will now take the matter of concussions more seriously and see what they can do to prevent these cases from happening. Their new main goal is to protect the players.
This article gives me a concrete example of what the problem is how is their an ideal solution of how to solve it. Can the concussions be reduced and does the trauma really affect the lives of retired NFL players. The case mentioned that all the widows of deceased players were in the court case. This really was getting serious and the lawyer was pretty positive they were gonna win the case. The NFL spread misleading information about head trauma and was now going to pay for it.
The article really gives me better idea of where to take my research. I think this concussions are a serious question and definitely a good topic to work with. With reading about this case you feel bad for the players but at the same time you wonder if they are putting themselves at risk as well. The players took all this to heart and decided to sue the NFL directly.
I plan to look more towards the details about concussions. What is the main reason players get them? Should there be rules to stop them? What is the best way to diagnose them and should there be more precautions taken after this accusation these players are making.
