This next article I selected is perfect for my research. It discusses ten major pros and cons of the death penalty. It not only gives sides that support what I believe, but also gives great opposing arguments that could potential persuade my viewpoint. The ten major argument discussed in this article are: morality, constitutionality, deterrence, retribution, irrevocable mistakes, cost of death vs. life in prison, race, income level, attorney quality, physicians at execution. The writers of these issues are not just your average everyday person who gives their opinion on the internet, they are well educated PhD certified scholars. It gives a short description about each member involved in this article after their piece of writing. This source I know will help me in my study.
This source will respond to my other source because I discussed the idea of the cost being a huge issue. This article focuses on the cost as well. It suggests ideas for both sides that can allow be to go in further detail with my first argument as well as debate the opposing argument that could lead to further research. It will also allow me to compare the information I have already studied and differentiate the two as agreeable or non agreeable sources.
This article is perfect for looking at opposing viewpoints. It gives the alternative viewpoints right there in the article. It will allow me to see the issue in new ways by having scholars and well education men and women objecting their opinions on this issue. It might allow me to change my opinion by looking into the way other see the death penalty. The issues I always thought were most important might turn out that others that benefit might come up as more important. This article also gave me ideas to think about that I would not have come up with on my own. Some ideas like race were ones that I never figured had such a large impact. It talks about the idea of African Americans being the most segregated when it comes to receiving the death penalty. About 50% of those who have received the death penalty are African Americans. I know want to focus specifically on that topic as well and research more about it. Another issue that led me to view the issue in a new light was the suggestion of attorney quality. It focuses on the idea that if you have more money and hire a better attorney then you are more likely to receive a punishment less serious then the death penalty, as oppose to those who cannot pay have a greater chance of receiving it. My thinking process has definitely gone in another direction and given me more specific topics associated with the death penalty to research.
Many new questions have come up that I want to research. I plan on further studying each of the ten topics discusses in this article to gather more information. I especially want to answer the question of race and gender in the statistics of the death penalty. Are females more likely to receive the death penalty or males? This question came to my mind when focusing on the race topic. Race is another topic I mentioned I want to look further into. This is an area of research I did not think about but I can see it having a huge effect on the death penalty. I want to again focus on previous cases along with statistics that can help support my essay accurately.
