Should the death penalty be abolished?
The next article I found was, "Organs By Firing Squad: The medical and moral implausibility of death penalty organ procurement." It discusses the death penalty in Taiwan, and although this is not directly related to the regulations in American, it can help lead to changes in the U.S. as well if they pass certain rules. They mainly focus on using the death penalty for organ transplants and donations. It has been a debated ethical, legal, and human rights issue for some time. Those that support it believe it will increase the availability of organs. It will allow those on death row to give an opportunity to encourage expressions of remorse and forgiveness. For those that are against prisoners donating their organs believe there would be difficulty of ensuring consent, along with the risk of corruption of the judicial process. The offer to make this all happened was rejected by prisoner authorities. There is also the religious view of this encounter. They suggest they are performing a sacrifice in atonement for their sins. Being an organ donor is a gift not a right and the right to donate organs is not owned by death-row inmates.
This source again supports both sides of the argument, allowing me to not be biased in my research. It connects back to one of my previous sources on whether or not it is justified or would somehow would benefit from the death penalty. This gives me a better look at how this can be beneficial in the long run. It allows me to further my stand point on some of my issues. Morality fits into this article along with some of my other ones. They do not directly tie together but I believe I can make them work together in a way that connects and makes sense.
This has affected my thinking process very similarly to the way others have. It has allowed for me to open my mind to a whole other side to the issue or death penalty and view it from a different standpoint. I like the fact that I am in some ways changing my mind about the issues from research and finding out new ways of viewing the topic. I never thought of using the organs of these inmates in a way that could benefit others. I only considered the death of criminals given the death penalty beneficial by sometimes providing closure of justice to the horrible situation that the victim went through. It can sometimes bring justice to the families as well. It made me reconsider if this is the only benefit given from the death of someone who did a tragic crime and should be punished. This could be something the United States is looking into also that I want to learn more about. The viewpoint this article gives me does not only support the use of donating organs but it gives the alternative viewpoint as well. It really helped me focus on rearranging my viewpoints and allowing my essay to conclude in an unbiased way. It has allowed me to come up with new questions I want to further research.
After reading this article many questions have come to mind that I wanted to further explore. I want to look at if the United States is considering the use or death penalty as organ donations. Why would prisoner authorities be against donating organs? If this could benefit others why would they not be for this? I want to research these questions and see if they can connect more directly to other articles and somehow convince myself of my unbiased viewpoint. I want to allow myself to research benefits of the death penalty and this article has really helped me.
